Inspired by the Surrealists’ exquisite corpse and their method of collaborating to build a figure through drawing parts that do not seem to belong to the same individual, the project is to create a series of life-size 3D sculptural portraits, in various mediums, that reimagine the figure of the artist as a collective body. Each portrait will be assembled from disparate body parts, each part created with different references in mind, from mythological creatures and Medieval bestiary to science fiction beings and actual artist’s lives. Other overarching themes for the project include flower symbolism, animism and totemism, the tarot and astrological signs. Artists will be asked to collaborate.
