Défloré(e)s: Solo Show
Composed of six site-specific wall pieces, a sound component and a video projection, this new series of work expands on the theme of deflowering (from the French term on loosing one’s freshness) beyond the first sexual act, as it pertains to Eros and Thanatos.
All the pieces are in dialogue and along with the chosen materials, they bring forth contradictions in perception between what is considered cheap versus precious or sacred, attractive versus repulsive, painful versus pleasurable, fresh versus dead, real versus representational.
In-between nature and culture, often human-altered and symbolically potent all over the world, flowers in my work speak of our connection and disconnection with the natural world and with our own human nature, its carnal and finite qualities.
