Drawing Circle

Drawing Circle, part of Draw Now! was a group drawing event led by artists Valérie Hallier and Andy Deck. Sponsored by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) and The Drawing Center, the collaboration produced a panoramic visualization of historic Fort Jay on Governor's Island, 2012.

The main principle for the project was the exhaustive study of one location by a mob of people each drawing a different angle of a same given location. It references Georges Perec’s literary situationist approach in his book “Tentative d’épuisement d’un lieu parisien” (Attempt at the exhaustion of a Parisian site). Participants spent an afternoon outdoors collaborating, drawing, and learning about New York history while using direct observational tools and techniques to create their drawings. The following websites offers ways to see the composited imagery that incorporates everyone's drawings.
